GRATEFUL FRIENDS ANIMAL RESCUE
Meet Grateful Friends Animal Rescue
Grateful Friends Animal Rescue (GFAR) is a Manitoba-based, volunteer-run animal rescue dedicated to supporting both animals and the people who care for them. Founded in 2020, GFAR has grown from a small grassroots effort into an organization helping hundreds of animals each year throughout Winnipeg, rural Manitoba, and northern communities.
While cats make up a large portion of the animals in GFAR’s care, the rescue also works extensively with dogs in need. Through foster homes, veterinary care, community outreach, rescue transfers, and spay and neuter initiatives, GFAR works to give animals the opportunity to live healthy, safe, and loved lives.
A major focus of GFAR’s work is addressing the barriers that can make accessing veterinary care difficult. The rescue organizes low-cost spay and neuter clinics, assists with vaccinations and parasite prevention, provides pet food and supplies when possible, and works alongside communities to create practical, long-term solutions. These programs help animals while also supporting families who love their pets but may face financial or geographic challenges accessing care.
GFAR is foster-based, meaning the rescue relies heavily on volunteers who open their homes to animals while they wait for adoption. The organization also works with local adoption partners to help animals find their forever families.
At its heart, Grateful Friends Animal Rescue believes animal welfare and community support go hand in hand. Every foster home, adoption, donation, volunteer hour, and community partnership allows GFAR to continue building a better future for Manitoba’s animals and the people who love them.
