THE BEAGLE ALLIANCE

Meet The Beagle Alliance

The Beagle Alliance is a Canadian registered charity dedicated to helping former research animals, particularly beagles, transition from laboratory environments into loving homes and appropriate sanctuaries. Beagles are widely recognized as the breed most commonly used in dog-based research globally, making them a significant focus of the organization’s work.

The Beagle Alliance works directly and collaboratively with research facilities, animal care teams, veterinarians, and other partners to create safe, practical pathways for eligible dogs to be released once they are no longer required for research. The organization provides support throughout the rehoming process, including coordinating transportation, veterinary care, foster placement, behavioural support, and carefully matched adoptive homes.

Unlike traditional rescue organizations, The Beagle Alliance specializes in the unique needs and circumstances surrounding animals transitioning out of research. Many of these dogs have never lived in a home, walked on grass, climbed stairs, or experienced the ordinary sights, sounds, and routines of family life. The organization works with a network of foster families and experienced professionals to give each dog the time, patience, and support needed to adjust.

Collaboration and professionalism are central to The Beagle Alliance’s approach. The organization does not engage in protests or adversarial campaigns against individual facilities. Instead, it works to build trust and develop practical solutions that benefit the animals while respecting the people responsible for their care.

Through these partnerships, The Beagle Alliance is helping create a future in which more dogs can move from the laboratory to loving homes, from LAB to LOVE, when their role in research has ended.
